Caring for Your Silicone Moulds

Proper maintenance of your silicone moulds is essential for anyone dedicated to candle making. Here’s how to keep your silicone mould collection in excellent condition using specific candle making equipment:

  1. Clean After Each Use

Immediately clean your mould after use. Use a wax scoop to remove any remaining wax before it sets. Wash the inside of the moulds with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads that might damage the silicone.

  1. Dry Properly

After washing, thoroughly dry your silicone moulds with a soft towel. Ensure there are no water spots or soap remnants, as these can affect your candle quality. Fully drying the mould also prevents the growth of mould and mildew.

  1. Store Correctly

Store your silicone mould collection in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, which can degrade the silicone over time. If you need to stack your moulds, place a soft cloth between them to prevent sticking and scratches.

  1. Use the Right Tools

Use a wicking tool or wicking needle to correctly centre the wick, ensuring even burning. Hold the wick in place at the base with a metal wick holder during the wax pouring process.

  1. Measure Wax Precisely

Use a glass beaker or wax dispenser to accurately measure your wax, minimising waste. Heat the wax in a wax melting pot, keeping the temperature controlled to avoid damaging the wax or the mould.

  1. Avoid High Heat

Although silicone moulds are resistant to heat, excessive heat can still damage them. Do not place them near open flames or directly on heat sources. Be cautious when using a mixing spoon to prevent tearing or scratching the delicate silicone.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your silicone moulds stay in perfect shape for future use with your candle making kits.
